About Baduy Village
We are exposing the life of Kanekes Villages, the Baduy of Indonesia, into a broader audience by presenting them in various compiled articles, journalistic writting, photographic pictures, academic studies, government policies and even travel stories from backpackers.
This site is dedicated to the people of Kanekes to raise public awareness, especially among the Banteners, that the people of Kanekes, the Baduy Villages, are golden mines possessing such a rich cultural heritage, knowledge of traditional wisdom, virtues of unspoken merits and villages economical potentialities---These challenges are to be managed properly and wisely.
Turbulent influx of predominant popular culture and consumerism threaten the villages boundary. Sooner or later, the Kanekes people will change and loose their identity. The increasing population within the fixed territory of the Outer Baduy presumably concerns us all.
The fact that the Kanekes traditional leaders reject the government offers to build educational, medical facilities within the villages adds to the problem of the Baduy's children education and health to the consequences of the next generation of the people of Kanekes.
Specific, strategic approaches for the Baduy must be implemented and these must be based on the academic researches and studies. The mismanaged approaches will endanger the survival of Kanekes culture.
As a precautionary actions, we call you to act helping the Kanekes Villagers, the Baduy of Indonesia to preserve the precious heritage of the Kanekes and at the same time bring up the next generation of Baduy to literacy.
